A New Girl at Spring Park

by Kitty

On Monday morning at 6am our new Showman’s Wagon the Duchess began her journey to Spring Park. She had to come across from the Isle of Wight on the ferry, luckily the company who had originally brought her to the island were able to collect her and bring her to us.

By 11.30 she was making her way up the lane from the village, we were worried it wouldn’t fit up the road but the driver seemed to have no problem at all. We hadn’t seen the Duchess for over a month since we went to look at her and Paddy and Mum hadn’t seen her at all so this was our first view of her.

I watched her coming down the ramp with my heart in my mouth imagine her having come all this way only to topple on to her side in front of the gates. Also would she look in a worse state in the day light and having traveled though all that rain maybe she would be awash inside. However they got her down from the lorry and in through the gates with relative ease.

Here she is squeezing through the gate ready to go to her new home.

We have put her on a plot next to The Duke and I think they will be great friends earlier when I walked round the path and saw her over the fence it was as if she was always there!

Here’s mum climbing down I think one of our first jobs will be some stairs for her front door and the waste ground you see will become a beautiful English garden. We think the Duchess was built during the 1940’s so I think some of her garden should be made over to vegetables and become a victory garden.
